Today on World Wildlife Day, the Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime stands together with those who cherish the biodiversity of our planet but remain highly concerned that our wildlife remains under severe threat in too many cases. One such threat is from illegal wildlife crime. That is why we support The Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime and have agreed to become an International Champion.
We support in particular:
- creating a new global agreement on wildlife crime
- amending existing wildlife trade laws to include public health and animal health as part of the decision-making process.
“The Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime exists to enhance the fight against financial crime and it does great work. The Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime exists to scale up efforts to prevent and combat wildlife crime. Targeting the proceeds of wildlife crime is a critical part of our collective efforts – and if the world fails to do so we will not end these highly destructive crimes. We delighted that the Global Coalition has today, on UN World Wildlife Day, joined the Global Initiative as an International Champion.” John Scanlon, Chair, Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime
