GCFFC Japan Chapter Launch
On 28 May 2026, the Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime (GCFFC) will formally launch its Japan Chapter, marking an important milestone in strengthening collaboration to combat fraud and financial crime in Japan and beyond.
Financial crime—including fraud and scams—has become an increasingly serious threat to individuals, businesses, and the integrity of the financial system. This escalation has been driven by rapid digitalisation, the growth of cyber-enabled crime, the evolution of digital assets and payment methods, and the expanding reach of international criminal networks.
In response, the GCFFC Japan Chapter has been established by a group of stakeholders committed to advancing practical, outcomes-focused solutions. The Chapter will act as a platform to address Japan-specific challenges, promote responsible public–private partnership and information sharing, and leverage international experience and comparative insights to support effective countermeasures.
The Chapter will also explore emerging issues and tools shaping the global response to financial crime, including the use of advanced technologies such as generative and agentic AI, international approaches to asset recovery, beneficial ownership transparency, and payment traceability.
To mark the launch, GCFFC will host a Seminar on Fraud and Financial Crime Countermeasures on Thursday, 28 May 2026, at the LSEG Japan office in Akasaka. The seminar will bring together domestic and international experts, including overseas government officials, to share global perspectives on evolving financial crime risks and responses.
During the event, GCFFC will formally establish the Japan Chapter and present its background, objectives, and planned activities.
